Welcome to Mindful Minds!

Did you know that 42.9% of people aged 16-85 years had experienced a mental disorder at some time in their life in Australia?

So in other words, mental health is a bigger issue in Australia than most people realise.

Mindful Minds is a 6 week campaign which aims to raise awareness about mental health in Australia, not only to break the stigma, but to provide you with a range of mindfulness strategies that you can incorporate into your lifestyle to help improve your overall mental health!

So let’s get ‘mindful’ over the next 6 weeks, and get our mental health in our best state!

Week 2: Why is Mental Health Awareness Important?

Raising awareness for mental health helps to break the stigma attached with it.

In Australia, over 50% of people who suffer from mental health do not reach out for help, which is concerning.

This is why it’s important for everyone to be educated about this topic, and understand that we all go through things from time to time and it is nothing to be ashamed of.

Being open-minded, while encouraging people to talk about their issues and seek help has proven to be a positive direction for anyone that may be dealing with mental health issues.

So make sure to reach out if you are struggling. Mental health services in Australia include:

  • BeyondBlue
  • Headspace
  • Black Dog Institute
  • SANE Australia
  • This Way Up
  • Mindspot

Thank you for tuning into week 2, and we will see you next week!

Week 3: Mindfulness Practices

Did you know that engaging in just 10 minutes of mindfulness practice a day can improve your overall wellbeing?

There are a range of different mindfulness practices:

  • Meditation
  • Controlled breathing
  • Practicing gratitude
  • Mindful eating
  • Mindful workout

Out of all of these, the most popular practice is meditation.

Short meditation exercise:

  • Set an alarm for 10 minutes
  • Sit on the floor, cross your legs, close your eyes, and keep your body up straight
  • Try to let your thoughts be, have no distractions nearby and stay mindful until your time is up

We guarantee after this that you will feel much more refreshed, clear headed and ready to continue your day!
